IVCO 2024 Conference Report Now Available: Building and Sustaining Connections for Change
We are pleased to announce the publication of the IVCO 2024 Conference Report: Building and Sustaining Connections for Change: Volunteering for Solidarity.
Held from 9th to 13th September at Northumbria University’s City Campus in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, IVCO 2024 took place at a time of global crises, conflicts, and widening inequalities. Hosted for the first time by an academic institution—Northumbria University’s Centre for Global Development, in collaboration with Comhlámh and Forum—the conference emphasised the importance of partnerships and solidarity in addressing global challenges.
The event brought together leaders from international organisations, NGOs, research institutions, and government bodies across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas, as well as local practitioners from the North East of England. Discussions focused on how volunteering can drive equity, social justice, and sustainability, and the urgent need to include global South perspectives in decision-making to strengthen solidarity.
The conference report captures the key insights and outcomes from IVCO 2024. It is the result of a collaborative effort led by Northumbria University’s IVCO 2024 Organising Team—Matt Baillie Smith, Bianca Fadel, and Sichelesile Nomalungelo Maxine Mpofu—with writing support from Janet Clark and contributions from the conference facilitators.
