MEET OUR SPEAKERS

Hattaya Wongsaengpaiboon

Technical Lead – Volunteering for Development, VSO International

This year marks her 15th anniversary with VSO. She worked on the Thailand/Myanmar border programme for 6 years, and then she started the Volunteering for Development (VFD) programme in Thailand in 2014 with the objective of supporting Thailand’s volunteering environment. The programme has trained hundreds of development workers and practitioners on the volunteer management system. Currently, she is a Volunteering for Development – Technical Lead working to support 19 countries across Asia and Africa to influence the sector to ensure that governments and other civil society organisations are able to use a volunteering approach to make a successful contribution to the delivery of the SDGs and a guest lecturer on the topic of SDGs, Volunteering for Development, Volunteer Management System for Thammasat University.

Karen Pavon

Country Representative – Honduras, Cuso International

Karen Pavon joined Cuso International’s team in 2014 and is currently the country representative in Honduras. She holds a master’s degree in project management and business administration. Karen is a professional with over 20 years of experience in management and implementation of development programmes and projects financed by international agencies and executed by state institutions in the private sector. She has participated in and led processes to build public policies and has occupied senior management positions, such as Director of the National Office for People with Disabilities in Honduras, as well as Director of International Cooperation for the Ministry of Economic Development. She has been part of the Foundation for Investment and Development of Exports (FIDE)’s team, and is an active researcher on the subject of migration.

Jonathan Hunter

Regional Director, Australian Volunteers Program Asia Archipelago, AVI

Jon has worked with International Volunteer Sending Organisations for over 20 years, initially spending four years as a Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) volunteer in Indonesia teaching electrical installation at a technical college and developing renewable energy technologies at a local civil society organisation.

After completing his volunteer assignment, Jon went on to manage VSO’s sustainable livelihoods program in Eastern Indonesia and then spent two years with the Canadian volunteer organisation CUSO as the Asia Pacific program manager supporting programming across a wide range of countries from Laos and Thailand to Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu. Since 2007, Jon has been working with AVI managing the Australian Volunteers program in Indonesia before taking on the Regional Directors role in 2017.

Jon has a BA in Criminology and Law and is a qualified electrician.
