MEET OUR SPEAKERS

Dr. Chris Millora

Lecturer, Goldsmiths, University of London

Chris is a researcher interested in learning in youth action (such as volunteering and activism). He is currently the principal investigator of Literacies of Dissent – a youth-led participatory action research project (funded by the Leverhulme Trust, UK) that explores the learning dimension of youth and student movements in the Philippines and Chile. Chris has authored several publications on youth volunteering such as the IAVE youth volunteering and social change series and a global report of Youth and Student Movements during COVID-19 published by the Global Campaign for Education.

Emmanuelle Parent

Volunteer Cooperation Programme Coordinator, International Bureau for Children’s Rights (IBCR)

Emmanuelle Parent has an MBA in business management and a bachelor’s degree in international studies specialising in project management. She has several years experience in international cooperation in project management, organisational development and monitoring and evaluation roles in Cameroon and Burkina Faso, as well as extensive experience in entrepreneurship and business development in the private sector. Moreover, in 2018 she co-founded a mineral and environmental analysis and quality control laboratory in Burkina Faso. Through her professional experience, Emmanuelle has developed expertise in strategic planning, business development and results-based management. After several years in the private sector, Emmanuelle returned to international development in 2020, the sector in which she feels her skills have the greatest impact.

Dr. Mayuko Onuki

Assistant Professor, Waseda University

Mayuko Onuki is an assistant professor at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University, Japan. She earned a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Southern California where she studied effective and cognitive processes underlying intergroup conflicts and cooperation. From 2015 to 2020, she was a research fellow at the JICA Ogata Research Institute, undertaking various applied psychological research on international volunteering, focusing on Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, as well as social integration in post-conflict societies, using her expertise in quantitative methods.
