International Volunteer Day celebrates the spirit of volunteerism and the contribution of volunteers in creating a better future for all.
This year the International Volunteer Day theme, ‘Volunteer now for our common future’, highlights volunteerism’s universality, and the role of volunteers in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
In this spirit, Forum is proud to mark International Volunteer Day 2021 by announcing a new evolution for our network. Starting in January 2022, Forum will expand its membership to include organisations that support volunteering at the national and local level in the Global South, as well as organisations that do not mobilise volunteers but instead support volunteering through research and advisory services.
From January, Forum will have three categories of member organisation:
- International Members – organisations that are actively engaged in international volunteering for development.
- National Members – organisations that are actively engaged in volunteering for development at the national or local level in the Global South.
- Associate Members – organisations that are involved in volunteering for development through related research and/or advisory services, or support to volunteer-involving organisations.
This step was unanimously approved by Forum’s members at our Annual Meeting in October. With it, Forum becomes a truly global network that encompasses the full breadth of volunteering in development. All Members – International, National and Associate will access Forum’s Working Groups, webinars and meetings, including the Research, Practice, Policy and Learning Group, the Forum Standards Working Group and our Community of Practice on Diversity and Inclusion. They will also access our Heads of Agency calls, pay reduced delegate fees for IVCO conferences, and shape the future direction of our community.
How to apply for Membership
From the 1st of January 2022, it will be possible to apply for National and Associate Membership. In the meantime, if you are interested in learning more, please get in touch by emailing email@example.com or by filling out this short form on the Forum website.
