US Senator Russ Feingold introduced a new national service bill in Congress on May 24th, 2007. If passed, the bill, Global Service Fellowship Program S 1464, will provide US citizens with more international volunteering and educational exchange opportunities. Potential participants will be selected by the State Department after being nominated for consideration by members of congress. In a move to open volunteer opportunities to all US citizens, a number of fellowships will be offered for those without resources to pay for program costs and the service time commitment will be flexible.
