Irish Aid Agencies Urge Government To Play Crucial Role in Protecting European Humanitarian Aid

Today, thirty-six Irish aid agencies called on the Government to play a lead role in Europe, by stopping attempts to politicise the EU’s emergency aid.

“Today and tomorrow, EU member states are meeting in Berlin to discuss their approach to humanitarian aid. We are concerned that some countries are looking for ways in which EU aid can further their political goals. As aid agencies, we think the prime aim of EU aid should be to assist the victims, not to pursue political ends” said Hans Zomer, spokesperson for the umbrella organisation of Irish aid agencies, Dóchas.
